Owens becomes Youth Pan Ams Champion!

Competing in her third and final Youth international competition, Avery Owens delivered a gold medal-winning performance at the Youth Pan American Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Avery [81 kg] set a personal best in the snatch with 84 kg to earn SILVER and went into the clean jerks trailing by 4 kg.

Owens win Gold with personal best clean and jerk at 112 kg.

After two successful attempts at 102 and 105 and the Silver medal locked, the final call would be based on what would be required to secure Gold. With Avery's competitor from Panama successful on her 3rd attempt at 107 kg, Avery (now trailing by six kilos) was given the opportunity to consider two options- keep the 109 PR attempt on the card to take Gold in the clean and jerk, or make a 7 kg increase to 112 kg and be Youth Pan Ams Champion. Avery chose the option to be a Champion and made good on a remarkable lift to win Gold for the clean jerk and for the total. 🥈🥇🥇
